Year 5

Welcome to Year 5's Class Page. We have got a brilliant year lined up with our new curriculum covering lots of subjects like History, Science, Geography and Art. Each of our Half Terms has also got a question for us to investigate.

Is chocolate bad for you?

In the first half term our big question will require us to find out whether chocolate should just be classed as bad for us. Class 5 will learn about the history of chocolate and about which parts of the world it comes from. They will also produce creative writing in many genres based on our writing theme. Most excitingly Year 5 will be designing/inventing, making and packaging their own chocolates within the half term.

Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory We couldn't do a chocolate theme in class without mentioning Roald Dahl's 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. Click on the image of the book below to go to the Roald Dahl website which includes lots of great activities based on the book and many others of the great writer's books.

Below are links to the Key Learning Skills for Year 5.
Please use them to find out about what your child is learning throughout Year 5. You could use the information at home for additional support which is always helpful.

Please never forget that reading is one of, if not the most important things we do in school. It is vital to everything else that we do. Read as much as possible, at least once a day. And don't be scared to try new books or different books from the ones you have read before. School reading books can be taken home every night and whatever you read can be recorded in your Reading Journal.

Hit The Button is brilliant, fun and free game that we use in class all the time to practice our times tables. The children need to know all their times tables (to 12x12) by the end of Year 5 so the more practice the better. Click the link to go to the game!
