Year 6

schoolpic6

Welcome to the year 6 class page! I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas holidays and are back ready and raring to continue on from the hard work you did in the Autumn Term.
Children will continue to work with Everton in the Community this term and receive additional sports coaching from our new School Sports Apprentice! The children really enjoy these sessions and for some have led on to them attending competitions as part of the school teams.

We have lots of exciting things to learn this term and different activities to take part in. In the first half term our Big Learning Question is ‘Why should we save the rainforest?’ this is a geography focus and we will be looking at both North and South America. We will be using Google earth to locate the different countries. Our Science topic is ‘Living things and their habitats’ we will focus on how plants and animals are classified.

This is an important year for year 6 and we would encourage you to support them with additional ready, writing, spelling and maths at home. Specifically it would help children to revise all times tables to 12 x 12 and the year 5 and 6 word list. This information can be downloaded from the right hand side of this page.

If you have any questions please feel free to come and see me before or after school and if you need a longer appointment we can arrange a more convenient time. We are lucky in year 6 to have other adults who will be providing additional support to the children.

During the second half term our big learning question is ‘What would Harry Potter’s world really be like?’ this will be an English and History focus as we will be looking at the history of the Pendle Hill Witches. In science we will be looking at ‘Light’ focusing on how to travels.

Year 6 will have a busy term as they will be starting their breakfast booster sessions! It is a great way for the children to get additional support with English and Maths in preparation for the SATs, whilst enjoying some warm tea and toast!

Children are really enjoying using
No Nonsense Spelling and Grammar to help improve their writing, if you would like any additional information on the strategies these use then please see me. If you have any other questions please feel free to come and see me before or after school and if you need a longer appointment we can arrange a more convenient time.

Thank you for visiting our class page!
